1982年｢第三舞台｣に参加し、俳優活動を始める。つかこうへい、三谷幸喜、宮藤官九郎、デヴィッド・ルヴォー、いのうえひでのり、長塚圭史ら当代きっての様々な舞台作家・演出家の作品に出演し、絶大な信頼と高い評価を得ている。また演出家としても『VAMP SHOW』（作 三谷幸喜）、『博覧會』（作 千葉雅子）など話題作を数多く手掛ける。近年の主な出演作に舞台『奇ッ怪 其ノ弐』（作 前川知大）『真心一座身も心も』（作 千葉雅子）、『印獣』(作 宮藤官九郎）、映画『うさぎドロップ』『ブタがいた教室』『有頂天ホテル』、テレビ『ブルドクター』（NTV）『日本人の知らない日本語』（YTV）、『週刊ブックレビュー』（NHK-BS）など。胡散くさい男、食えない男など、オフビートなキャラクターを得意としながら、予断を持たず様々な作家とジョイントしていく姿勢を貫いている。 Started acting in the theatrical group “The Third Stage”(organizer: Shoji Kokami), in his undergraduate days, 1982. Since then, he plays on stage that some remarkable stage wrights and directors like Kohei Tsuka, Koki Mitani, Kankuro Kudo, Hidenori Inoue, Keishi Nagatsuka and David Leveaux produced. He works in a wide range of fields, not only the stage but also the musical, movie, TV drama. And he gives full play to his talent as a director. He is the one of the highly-respected actor in Japan. His specific talent to deliver and sharpened sense make him set to play between the role of a handsome and a crown.
